Chinese first attosecond laser device is under construction
The attosecond has become a new tool for researchers to explore the electronic world. “For researchers, attosecond research is a must, with attosecond, many science experiments in the relevant atomic scale dynamics process will be more clear, people for biological proteins, life phenomena, atomic scale and other related research more accurate.” Pan Yiming said.
Wei Zhiyi, a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, believes that the progress of coherent light pulses from femtoseconds to attoseconds is not only a simple progress in the time scale, but more importantly, the ability of people to study the structure of matter, from the movement of atoms and molecules to the interior of atoms, can detect the movement of electrons and related behavior, which has triggered a major revolution in basic physics research. It is one of the important scientific goals that people pursue to accurately measure the motion of electrons, realize the understanding of their physical properties, and then control the dynamic behavior of electrons in atoms. With attosecond pulses, we can measure and even manipulate individual microscopic particles, and thus make more fundamental and original observations and descriptions of the microscopic world, a world dominated by quantum mechanics.
Although this research is still a little far away from the general public, the instigation of “butterfly wings” will certainly lead to the arrival of scientific research “storm”. In China, attosecond laser related research has been included in the national important development direction, the relevant experimental system has been built and the scientific device is being planned, will provide an important innovative means for the study of attosecond dynamics, through the observation of electron motion, become the best “electron microscope” in the future time resolution category.
According to public information, an attosecond laser device is being planned at the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory in China’s Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. According to reports, the advanced attosecond laser facility is jointly built by the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Xiguang Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory is involved in the construction. Through the high starting point design, the construction of a multi-beam line station with high repetition frequency, high photon energy, high flux and extremely short pulse width provides ultrafine coherent radiation with the shortest pulse width less than 60as and the highest photon energy up to 500ev, and is equipped with the corresponding application research platform, and the comprehensive index is expected to achieve the international leader after completion.
